Repatriation of Bru refugees postponed

By The Assam Tribune

AIZAWL, April 8 (PTI) - The third phase of repatriation of Bru refugees from six relief camps in neighbouring North Tripura, scheduled to begin from today, has been postponed to next Tuesday, a police official said today.

The decision was made at a meeting between state government officials and leaders of Mizoram Bru Displaced People's Forum (MBDPF) at Kanchanpur in North Tripura yesterday, said H Sangawia, Superintendent of Police in Mamit district.

Insisting that refugees were unable to return to Mizoram due to time constraint, MBDPF President A Sawibunga suggested that the repatriation begin from April 12, said a police official at a village in the Mizoram-Tripura border.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram and Assam police conducted a joint operation from 12 PM yesterday to flush out militants along the international border with Myanmar and arrested two Bru militants and also seized a country-made gun.
