Repair of NH 31, 52 at Baihata Chariali demanded

BAIHATA CHARIALI, May 27 � Demanding immediate repair of National Highways 31 and 52 and construction of roadside drains, the AASU activists along with public, 15 other organisations and local students blocked the two national highways at Baihata Chariali recently. The AASU activists took out a protest rally against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for their negligence towards the repair of the roads and the protesters with placards, festoons and banners gathered in the heart of Baihata Chariali from 11 am for one hour raising slogans against the NHAI.

A protest meeting in this connection was also held where Subha Ram Das, executive member of AASU said that the National Highways 31 and 52 have become deplorable only due to NHAI�s negligence. Dharmeswar Das, president of AASU, Kamrup district unit said that the students of the area have come out to the streets demanding the repair of the NHs and it is a shameful incident in a democratic country. On the other hand Nabajyoti Deka, president of AASU, Rangiya sub-division unit said that though a number of MLAs and ministers travel through these roads everyday, but they do not give the least interest for a solution to this grave public problem. In the protest meeting Kshitish Chandra Pegu, circle officer of Kamalpur revenue circle, SDPO, Rangiya circle officer of Police, Baihata Chariali were also present.

The circle officer of Kamalpur assured that he would take initiative to attract the attention of the Government for the improvement of the road as soon as possible. Phuleswar Dhing, retired principal of Pub-Kamrup College, Jitendra Nath Goswami headmaster of Agdala Chariali High School, Bipin Deka, activist of Rangiya district Unnati Sabha, social worker Tofik Choudhury, Nazim Ahmed and others also criticised the neglect of NHAI regarding repair of the roads. In the protest meeting Baihata Chariali unit of AASU, Rural Library, local organisations Prabahan, Prakshalan, Bahniman Sangha, Lekhika Samaroh, Sahitya Sabha, Baihata Chariali Press Club, businessmen organisations etc. also co-operated. The normal surface communication in the roads was interrupted for about one hour during the road blockade.
