Renovation of Sadhana Kuthi by Feb

GUWAHATI, Nov 8 - The renovation and conservation work of Sadhana Kuthi, one of the twin heritage houses of the doyen of Assamese literature, Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa at Sambalpur in Odisha will be completed by February 2020.

Sadhana Kuthi, which was used by the literary genius for his creative works, is likely to be inaugurated on March 26 on the occasion of Bezbaroa�s death anniversary, said Deepak Panda, a member of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and convenor of the Sahityarathi Lakhsminath Bezbaroa Smriti Rakhya Samiti.

A two-day function, including a literary meet, is also being planned by the Odisha government in association with the Assam government to mark the occasion.

Preetom Saikia, Commissioner and Secretary, Culture department, visited Odisha on Thursday and held talks with his counterpart at Bhubaneswar.

Saikia, according to a statement, was apprised about the increase in the budget for renovation of both the houses of Bezbaroa at Sambalpur. Saikia went to Sambalpur to see Bezbaroa House and assessed the progress of conservation work. He was briefed on the Detailed Project Report and design by INTACH officials.

Both Odisha and Assam have released fund of Rs 50 lakh each for the conservation and renovation work of both the houses.

Saikia also assured that Assam will contribute to raise a corpus fund for running of the Bezbaroa Smruti Bhawan, which will have a museum, library and an activity centre for writers and poets.
