Renovation at Ramcharan Thakur Satra

BARPETA, Sept 20 - Foundation stones for four new schemes were laid and a road was inaugurated under Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency in Barpeta district recently. Of the four foundation stones, three are related to the historic Ramcharan Thakur Satra at Kalbari.

Sarbhog MLA and Housefed chairman Ranjeet Kumar Dass laid the foundation stone of the main building of the historic Satra established in 1602. The main bulding will be rebuilt with financial assistance of the State government amounting to Rs 30 lakh.

Das also laid the foundation of an internal road road at the Satra at an estimated cost of Rs 59.21 lakh to be constructed under the Asom Darshan project.

The foundation stone of the guest house at the Satra, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh under the Asom Darshan project was laid by Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Munindra Sarma.

Speaking on the occasion, Dass said that with the completion of the three schemes, the historic pilgrimage spot will get a new lease of life after it was neglected for centuries. He said that the flow of tourists will definitely increase with the improvement in infrastructure.

The State BJP president also laid the foundation stone of the 6.8-km Medhikuchi-Manah connecting road via Bhabanipur Saralpara to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh.

He also inaugurated a newly- constructed road from Bhabanipur to Madhya Paschim Kardoiguri, constructed at a cost of Rs 87.21 lakh received from the Finance Commission during 2018-19.

Assam Agriculture Marketing Board vice chairman Manoj Baruah and PWD Pathshala Division executive engineer Atul Goswami were present during the programme.
