Renewed demand for rly medical college

DIBRUGARH, May 23 � The Dibrugarh Bar Association and the Eastern Assam Chamber of Commerce and Industry here have reiterated their demand for initiation of work for the establishment of the Dibrugarh Railway Medical College, as announced in the 2009 Railway Budget by then Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The two organisations have called upon the authorities concerned in the North East Frontier Railway to expedite the process for establishment of the medical institute in this historic town. The leading organisations of the city have also demanded construction of flyovers at Lahowal Tiniali and Convoy Road intersection, the two places where traffic jams waste valuable time of patients, students and common people every day.

Expressing satisfaction over the extension of the train to the historic Dibrugarh town station, the organisations reiterated that other passenger trains, too, must culminate at the town station to enable easy access to passengers.

Other demands of the organisations included introduction of Janshatabdi Express between Furkating Junction and Dibrugarh via Golaghat town, Jorhat town, Sivasagar town and Moranhat, so that people coming in large numbers to the city everyday for medical treatment, education, jobs and other purposes may be benefitted.
