Remove derogatory write-ups on Morans

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 28 - The All Moran Students Union has asked the State government, Asam Sahitya Sabha and the Publication Board, Assam, to remove the write-ups and old literary works that mock and trivialise the Moran community of the State.

Addressing the media here, the student bodys president Arunjyoti Moran said that memorandums in this regard have been submitted earlier also, but no action has been taken on the matter yet. Sons of the soil, the Moran people have been contributing to the overall development of the State. History has several instances of generosity of the Moran kings. Still, in some of the writings, Morans are trivialised by many writers, which create a negative impression about the community among the people in general, and it is also derogatory, Moran said.

The student body also lamented the fact that the Asam Sahitya Sabha did not take any step to address the grievances of the Morans. An executive committee meet of the All Moran Students Union has decided to stage a protest in New Delhi on June 29 over its long pending demands for granting of ST status to the Moran community, an autonomous council for Morans, a separate directorate for the development of the community and an Upper House in the State Legislative Assembly for adequate representation of all the communities.
