SHILLONG, July 10 - The Meghalaya Government has provided an amnesty period of six months to tax defaulters to pay their dues with a 30 per cent discount.
The State Cabinet has decided to adopt the Meghalaya Settlement of Arrears Ordinance 2020 for over 800 tax defaulters in the State who can avail of this window period and clear their dues.
The Meghalaya Government stands to realise Rs 105 crore from the tax defaulters. Some of these tax defaulters have not paid their dues for the last 30 years.
The amnesty period will come into effect from the day the ordinance in this regard is notified. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said those willing to avail of the scheme can submit an application to the Commissioner of Taxes after the notification is issued.
