Relief materials distributed in Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, Oct 25 - India Red Cross Society, Jonai sub-district unit distributed relief items among 250 poor families, who were severely affected by flash flood and other natural disasters during last monsoon.

Inaugurating the relief distribution programme at Murkongselek Block (Jonai) training hall on Tuesday, Jonai SDO (Civil) cum Red Cross Society�s president, Nisarge Hivare said the sub-divisional administration every year conducts meeting on pre-monsoon preparedness and post-disaster mitigation besides deploying man and machines for relief and rescue operation in flood disaster.

The SDO said that the members of Indian Red Cross Society are actively helping the local administration to mitigate the disastrous situation and disseminating disaster-related information to the authority time-to-time.

Addressing the meeting, vice-chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, Assam state committee Biren Sonowal explained structure and services rendered by the international volunteer organization.

Sonowal informed that State Red Cross society has taken decision to impart training to 100 youths of each district and sub-division units on �disaster management� within the next month.

Among others, Dhemaji district Red Cross Society chairman Nandeswar Borgohain, District Executive Member Lalit Chandra Dutta and Jonai Unit Red Cross society chairman Mani Kanta Doley attended the programme.

Earlier, Dhemaji district unit Red Cross Society distributed relief materials among 500 flood-affected families of different villages under Dhemaji block last week.
