Relief demanded for flood-hit people

TURA, Sept 20 - People of Moulakandi under Phulbari police station, have demanded relief for the farmers who were hit by floods. Mozidur Rahman has already sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya urging him to provide relief to the flood-hit people.

�The recent floods affected the farmers of West Garo Hills to a large extent. The poor farmers are now facing hardships to run their families, so considering the gravity of the situation, the Chief Minister should grant relief and a special package to the farmers to mitigate the situation,� Rahman said in the letter.

According to information, around two lakh people were affected by the recent floods in both West and South West Garo Hills districts. Paddy worth crores of rupees were also destroyed and now COVID pandemic has worsened the situation further.

It may be mentioned here that during the floods, MP of Tura, Agatha K Sangma along with local MLAs had visited the flood-affected areas and assessed the damage of paddy crops. Rahman urged the state authorities to help those distressed farmers and to fast track compensation for them and their families.
