Released SPOs arrested again at Haflong

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, July 16 - In a bizarre incident, SPO leaders Dilip Saikia, president and Mrityunjoy Bora, secretary respectively of Assam SPO Welfare Society (ASPOWS) were arrested again by the Haflong Police today in connection with a case at Maibang Police station immediately after their release on bail.

Dilip Saikia and Mrityunjoy Bora were in jail in connection with a Haflong PS case from June 8.

The Gauhati High Court had granted them bail on July 14.

The SPOs had launched a democratic movement against the State government demanding permanent services in the 3rd Battalion. The government had assured to form the 3rd Battalion for the SPOs in 2011.

But the government backtracked from its assurance which compelled the SPOs to launch a vigorous agitation on June 6 this year.

Both the leaders were arrested on June 8 and granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on July 14. But soon after their release, they were arrested again on Thursday.

Both the leaders, who had helped the government in anti-insurgency operations earlier, questioned the governments intention of arresting them again.
