By Correspondent

DIPHU, July 1 - The Karbi Students Association, Students & Youth Council, All India Students Association, Asom Jatiyabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad and the Students and Youth for Justice, held a joint sit-in-demonstration programme demanding immediate installation of forest check gates in all border areas under the administrative jurisdiction of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. The students body submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the SDO (Civil), Bokajan to this effect. The memorandum mentioned that the forest resources of the district are rapidly dwindling with every passing day and to regulate the distribution of the forest produce judiciously without being over exploited by the smugglers, reinstallation of all the existing forest check gates particularly in the border areas is the need of the hour. We appeal to the Chief Minister to prevent smuggling of all forest products like brooms, bamboo and other produces across the border. They are diminishing day by day due to the unlimited wants of the people and illegal transportation. So, the forest check gates should be reinstalled immediately to prevent the illegal act, the memorandum mentioned.
