DIPHU, Oct 20 One year from the date of signing of MoS with the Government, the UPDS members have been provided rehabilitation package at a grant distribution ceremony at Diphu indoor stadium, in Karbi Anglong on Friday.

During the grant distribution ceremony, a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh was given to each 423 elsewhere-UPDS members as one time financial package.

The grant distribution ceremony was attended by Khagen Sharma, IGP, (Special Branch), KAAC, CEM, KAAC, Joyram Engleng, MP Gupta, DIG, Central range, Hassan Ali, ADC, Mridulananda Sharma, SP(SB), BB Chetry, SP, Diphu and leaders along with ex-UPDS cadres.

Addressing the grant distribution ceremony, IGP Khagen Sharma, while addressing the surrendered UPDS cadres said administration is seriously considering the option to raise a police force to absolve the cadres in government jobs. Under all probability, they will be given relaxation of age and qualification, but they will have to pass the required examination.

In his speech, Horen Sing Bey, ex-general secretary, of the ex-UPDS, expressing his satisfaction over pledge of government, said that due to delay of this financial grant, some cadres became misguided and this package will help them in rehabilitating themselves.

It may be mentioned here that the UPDS militant organization came in cease fire agreement with the government in 2002 and later they signed MoS (Memorandum of Settlement) on November 25, 2011.
