Regional medicine warehouse opened

GUWAHATI, Jan 27 - Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Chemicals & Fertilizers Mansukh L Mandaviya inaugurated the Regional Warehouse under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadi Pariyojana (PMBJP) at Pamohi here today.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Mandaviya said the warehouse in Guwahati, set up by the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI), would facilitate the seamless supply of medicines to all PMBJP Kendras functioning across the North East.

More than 5,000 Janaushadi stores with various medicines are available across the country and out of which, 150 have been set up in the North East, the minister added. He also said that all medicines available at Janaushadi stores are 50-80 per cent cheaper than the average market price.

Delivering the welcome address, BPPI CEO Sachin Singh said that the Janaushadi stores provide quality medicines at an affordable price and the opening of the warehouse would facilitate the supply of medicines in an uninterrupted manner to all the stores of the North East.

Among others, NIPER director Dr USN Murty was also present on the occasion.

Earlier in the day, the Union MoS visited the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) at Changsari here. He visited the departments, labs and manufacturing units of CIPET and interacted with the faculty and students of the institute.

Mandaviya also inaugurated the skill development programme of the institute today. The minister also visited the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Guwahati earlier in the day.
