Regimental Centre prevail over ASEB

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 Defending champions Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong were too good for ASEB Sports Club and earned a facile 4-0 victory in the quarterfinal league match of the Bordoloi Trophy at the Nehru Stadium here this evening.

The ASEB defenders were not in proper shape today and failed to contain the fast-moving Regimental attackers. Anticipating a pass from Ajit Kumar Singh, unmarked L Bishorjit Singh fired home in the 24th minute to put the Shillong outfit ahead.

Bishojits firm drive again found the ASEB net in the 46th minute. Rakesh Singh made a solo run down the left flank and set the ball for Bishorjit, whose powerful drive beat the ASEB custodian at the near post. The shot was powerful that goalkeeper Daoga hardly any time to react. Somokanta Singh made it 3-0 in the 87th minute. Finally, Somorjit Singh, one minute later, scored the 4th goal.

For ASEB, Jilendra Brahma and Shyam Mura tried to cruise through the Regimental defence. But their feeble attempts hardly created any sort of panic in the opponents striking zone. Regimental midfielders were in total control and fed the nimble footed wingers all throughout the match.

On the other hand, ASEB defenders failed to put their act in order and were overpowered by the Regimental midfielders.

Dhaka team arrives: Abahani Krira Chakra, the national champions of Bangladesh, arrived here last night. The 18-members team had a light workout at the Nehru Stadium today. Four players of the team from Ghana will arrive here tomorrow. Todays match: 3 Star Nepal vs Shillong Lajong.
