By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Feb 6 Reduction in the duration of telecast by Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Dibrugarh, has evoked strong resentment among the general viewers and the Dibrugarh Doordarshan Private Producers Forum here.

Reacting to the insertion of Guwahati Doordarhans programme by cutting short DDK, Dibrugarhs own programme, the forum said the periodic take over of Dibrugarh Doordarhans time by Guwahati Doordarshan, was affecting the diversified culture of upper Assam, which DDK, Dibrugarh had for long upheld with dignity. Various ethnic tribes and communities of upper Assam like Misings, Deoris, Sonowal Kachari, Morans, Mottock, Tea Garden dependants, Tai Ahoms, Nepalis etc. had been able to promote, preserve and uplift their cultural heritage through DDK, Dibrugarh, the forum said in a press release.

The forum further said that the local artists of the region benefitted financilaly through their performances. Stating that Doordarshan Kendra, Dibrugarh was rendering a commendable service in the socio-economic and cultural development of this region, the local private producers forum said that reduction in the duration was against the interest of the local viewers.

It may be mentioned that Dibrugarh Doordarshan earlier telecast programmes for two hours. But later, half an hour duration of DDK, Dibrugarhs programme was reduced and it was replaced by Kalyani programme relayed from Guwahati. Recently, DDK, Guwahati snatched away another half an hour time of Dibrugarh Doordarshan for relay of Krishi Darshan. The relay of Kalyani and Krishi Darshan from Guwahati, the forum said, was in no way benefiting the people of the region. The Dibrugarh Doordarshan Private Producers Forum has called upon the Deputy director general, Programme Production Centre (NER), Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati to stop the relay of the two programmes and reinstate the programmes of DDK, Dibrugarh at the earliest.
