GUWAHATI, July 27 - A red alert has been issued in the State following todays terror attack in Gurdaspur district in Punjab.
The Punjab attack is very unfortunate and we condemn it. We have issued a red alert across the State following the attack, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters here. He added that terrorist groups in Assam are also trying to create disturbances.
ULFA, NDFB, Jehadis - all are trying to disturb the peace in the State. However, we have been able to control them successfully. We have sought more Central forces to manage the law-and-order situation better, Gogoi said.
Asked about the presence of Islamic State (IS), also known as ISIS or ISIL, in the State, Gogoi said, IS is here, but it has not become a threat yet in Assam. IS is currently present in many states of the country, he said.
The Chief Minister also turned down the allegation that madrassas in the State have links with jehadi elements and said the State government has no reports so far that madrassas in Assam have become shelters for such elements.
