By ANN Service

PATACHARKUCHI, May 9 - An under-construction RCC bridge near Sarupeta in Baksa district collapsed on May 6. Though no one was injured, the incident created sensation and residents said that their allegation of low-quality material being used in the construction work has been proved.

Construction work on the road 5 km in length along with the bridge was being carried out from Ganakpara of Bajali subdivision to Bartari-Sonafuli of Salbari subdivision in Baksa district at an estimated cost of Rs 5.57 lakh. Work began in 2017 under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme. The work was being done under the office of the Executive Engineer, PWD, Mushalpur subdivision of Baksa district.

Locals alleged that the construction was being done with low-quality material, due to which the bridge collapsed before being opened for the public. The people have demanded a proper inquiry into the matter.
