RBI authorises banks to collect income tax

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 19 Considering the heavy rush of income tax remittance toward the end of March, June, September and December, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authorised some of the bank branches in Guwahati to accept payment of income tax dues in cash or by cheques.

Due to the heavy rush of people, it becomes difficult for the bank to cope with the pressure of the receipts, although additional counters to the maximum extent possible are provided for the purpose. In Sate Bank of Inida (SBI), the Guwahati main branch, Chenikuthi, Dispur, Fancy Bazar, AT Road, Gauhati University, Guwahati Refinery, Gauhati Medical College, Gita Nagar, Madgharia, Maligaon, New Guwahati, Guwahati Airport, Silpukhuri, South Guwahati, West Guwahati and ICD Amingaon can accept the payment.
