By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, July 6 - The prestigious Rasheswar Saikia Barbayan Sattriya Award will be conferred this year on Sonaram Sarmah Burhabhakat, a bhakat of Mul Kamalabari Satra in Jorhat, Dr Nita Vidyarthi, a dance critic from West Bengal, and Kalavati Devi, a Manipuri dancer and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award recipient from Manipur.

A press release issued here stated that every year on July 8, Sangeet Sattra organises the prestigious Rasheswar Saikia Barbayan Sattriya Award ceremony, along with an annual festival of dance and music.

However, due to the COVID-19 situation this year, it is not possible for the Sangeet Sattra to organise the festival in such a large scale. The award will be presented at a programme after the situation gets normalised.

This year, Sangeet Sattra will celebrate the event virtually through its Facebook page and YouTube channel, where the award winners, scholars, dignitaries, and a few disciples of Guru Rasheswar Saikia Barbayan will deliver speeches which will be followed by cultural items.
