Rapport among agencies concerned must: Sahay

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 8 - Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay today said that violence against children cannot be checked unless an effective rapport among various agencies, including Government departments concerned, is established.

The Director General of Police (DGP) said that the departments concerned must get themselves actively involved and help the law-enforcers to effectively deal with issues related to child trafficking and other forms of crimes against children.

Sahay was speaking at a seminar organized by the Criminal Investigation Department on Combating Child Trafficking and Child Labour by Effective Law Enforcement: Problems, Vulnerabilities and Agenda Setting at the Assam Police headquarters here.

Police alone cannot put a tab on crime against children or child labour. Without a cohesive effort, we can never achieve the desired results, the DGP said, while stating that incidents of child trafficking are on the rise.

He urged the police officials to deal with issues related to children with utmost priority.

The seminar was attended by police personnel from all the districts. Representatives of Social Welfare department, Health department, Labour department and State Child Rights Commission were also present in the seminar.

Representatives of non-government organizations including Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) and Impulse Network too were present.
