IMPHAL, Feb 28 - A minor rape victim, hospitalised at RIMS hospital here since the last few days, died this morning. The victim said to be around six and half year-old girl from Tamenglong district, was staying at a relative�s place at Chiningkhul under Bishnupur Police Station when she was raped on February 15 last.
On hearing the news, people turned up at RIMS mortuary and condemned the rape. They also staged a protest march from there but were stopped by the police at Uripok-RIMS junction. Later, a memorandum was submitted to the CM.
The memorandum urged the government to initiate necessary steps to protect women and children in the State besides demanding a judicial probe into alleged medical negligence in the girl�s treatment. It also urged the government to investigate into the case thoroughly.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the accused rapist based on a complaint by the victim�s family, sources said.
