By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 18 - Chief Executive Member of Mising Autonomous Council Ranoj Pegu today joined the BJP and is expected to be fielded by the saffron party as its nominee for the Dhemaji bypolls slated for April 9.

Pegu joined the BJP at party headquarters here in the presence of senior leaders, including State president Ranjeet Kumar Dass. The former Gana Shakti leader said he was inspired by the philosophy of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, the BJP has formed a 17-member committee headed by Naba Kumar Doley for the bypolls.

AGP, the alliance partner in the government, is likely to leave the seat for BJP, but the regional partys Dhemaji district unit has revolted and may field a candidate on its own.

The Congress has nominated Babul Sonowal as its candidate for the bypoll.

The seat fell vacant after Pradan Baruah resigned to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Lakhimpur.
