GUWAHATI, May 28 The first All Assam Ranking Badminton Tournament kicked off at the Kanaklata Indoor Stadium here today. Altogether 221 players from all over the State are participating in the championship which has been organised by Guwahati Sports Association.

Competitions are being organised in the age group of, both boys and girls, U-10, U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19, men and women. The championship was started with the boys U-13 category matches and in the first round no upset was taken place as all the seeded players have won their first round matches comfortably.

However, frequent power cut making it difficult for the organisers to conduct the matches in proper time which apparently irked the players and their guardians. GSA badminton secretary L Hemanta Singh assured that from tomorrow they will arrange a generator so that the four-day tournament could be completed smoothly. The tournament was formally inaugurated by Assam Badminton Association secretary Omar Rashid.
