Ranji season against Delhi from today

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 5 - The Ranji season for the year 2016-17 will kick start with various matches in different neutral venues from tomorrow.

Last years semifinalists Assam will take on former champions Delhi at Baroda in the four-day encounter.

Last year Assam defeated their much fancied opponent at the Assam Cricket Associations Barsapara cricket stadium here by five wickets. Assam pacers Krishna Das and his Barpeta compatriot Arup Das were in tremendous form last year and mainly due to their show along with batsmen KB Arun Karthik and Amit Vermas immense contribution Assam were able to make it to the last-four stage.

Assam also earned an unique feat last year as they defeated last two years champion Karnataka. However, this year the BCCI has decided to hold all the matches in neutral venues and as a result Assam will have to travel for all the Elite Group B matches. Till date Assam has played 257 Ranji Trophy matches out of which they have won 44, lost 125 and drew 88.
