Rangpo-Siliguri rail project by 2023

GANGTOK, March 3 - A team from Ircon International Ltd, led by its General Manager (Civil), Siliguri region, TT Bhutia called on Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang at the Tashiling Secretariat today and presented a detailed report on the ongoing Rangpo-Siliguri railway project. The difficulties being faced during the execution of the project were highlighted by Bhutia.

Despite frequent natural calamities and other unpredictable conditions, the company is committed to completing the railway line from Siliguri to Rangpo in 2023, the Ircon official added.

Bhutia also informed the Chief Minister that 86 per cent (38 km out of 45 km) of the project would comprise tunnelling works and only a 7-km line would be in laid open space. The Railway authorities have specified five stations namely Sevoke, Riyang, Teesta Bazar, Malli and Rangpo.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister stated that there is also a proposal to extend the railway line up to Gangtok and Nathula in the near future.
