Rangiya town flooded

RANGIYA, July 31 - Rangiya in Kamrup district has turned out to be one of the worst flood- affected places this year.

With a sudden increase in the level of the Borolia river water since last evening, almost the entire municipal and other areas have been flooded. For the second time within a month, residents are witnessing flood water entering the houses and roads being submerged, leaving many victims to take shelter in temporary relief camps.

A majority of the municipal ward areas of the locality are submerged. The overflooded Borolia river has affected parts of Gogmalacha, Milanpur, Murara, Udiana, Bihapara, Jayantipur, MG Road, NT Road, Rangiya Bazaar area, Police point area near Rangiya PS, Khairabari besides several other areas. Many families have shifted to temporary shelters in nearby schools and colleges like Rangiya TT College, and others.

The connecting road to Rangiya PS, SDO civil road , SBI main branch of the locality have been flooded . Meanwhile, many nearby villages under Rangiya revenue circle have also been hit. Power supply has also been disrupted in many places as power feeding transformers have been submerged in many areas including at Santipur. It needs mention here that an embankment of Puthimari river has already been breached at Bagaribari and other locations due to which overflowimg water has easily entered the town through the Borolia river.
