Ranganadi flood water disrupts NH-52 traffic

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 17 Flood water of the Ranganadi has inundated the NH-52 subway near the Ganesh Mandir area in North Lakhimpur town in Lakhimpur district, while the floodwater of the Singara has inundated seven villages under Naoboicha Revenue Circle of the district. A little repairs will make the NH-52 subway motorable within a couple of days, claimed the Lakhimpur Water Resources Department (WRD) sources.

However, the WRD sources claimed that rains made the Ranganadi and the Singara cause the present situation.

The Singara has now been flowing through one of the old breaches in its left dyke and inundated the seven villages. The Singara breached its left dyke at four places last year. Three of the breaches had been plugged while work was on to plug the fourth one.

Civil administration of Naoboicha said that 4,139 people of the seven villages were affected. The villages include Lakhimigaon, Rowdong, Naghuli and Pandhowa, among others. The village road of Lakhimigaon is affected due to the inundation and breaches at three places.

The Singara water entered the villages through the breach near Lakhimigaon around 8 am of May 17.

However, water is receding now with a halt in the rainfall activities for the time being and there is an improvement in the overall situation, said the civil administration sources.

Meanwhile, rainwater created another problem for the people of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts with floodwater of the Ranganadi inundating the NH-52 subway. WRD sources maintain that rainwater, rather than the usual Ranganadi floodwater, led to this development. In the Lakhimpur district, it is raining constantly and hence is the present flood situation in Naoboicha and North Lakhimpur areas, said the sources.
