Rana Tamuly memorial play contest begins

GOLAGHAT, June 25 - Noted filmmaker Munin Barua inaugurated the inaugural edition of the Rana Tamuly Memorial All Assam One-act Play Competition at Golaghat Commerce College on Friday.

The drama contest is being organised by the Cine Theatrical Society of Golaghat Commerce College in the memory of actor Rana Tamuly who was also a former Vice-Principal of the college. Actor Brojen Bora was the guest of honour in the inaugural ceremony.

The Principal of the college, Dr Jatindra Nath Saikia delivered the welcome address. A faculty member Dr Rajib Lochan Bora recalled the fond memories of Late Rana Tamuly. Earlier, Pramila Tamuly, the wife of the late actor paid tributes to the departed soul.

Altogether 24 teams from across the State are participating in the three-day drama event. The dramas staged on the opening day were Aashray (Dergaon Jatiya Vidyalaya), No Propaganda (Nazira), Bhagawan, Edal Sipjari Aru Aami (Jorhat), Bandhuttat Premar Subas (Bahona, Jorhat), Ajamil Charit (Bokakhat), Pagala (Dergaon), Ber (Jorhat), Saru Sur Bar Sur (Dhekial) and Padumanir Edin Gadhuli (Marangi).

The plays which were staged on Saturday were Herua Surar Baatat (Golaghat), Aakou Natun Prabhat Hobo (Dibrugarh), Raja Rani Ahise Olang Dalang Khelise (Sonitpur), Pejali (Nagaon), Mukti (Chatiya), Tumi Mok Beya Paisila Neki Deuta (Sarupathar), Prajanma (Jorhat), Astroprasar (Moran) and Ekhon Dharmajuddhar Aat Dhori (Dergaon).

The dramas lined up for the concluding day are Sonali Sutar Jari (Nagaon), Bukut Ejak Dhumuha (Guwahati), Roja Jidina Maak Hol (Guwahati), Uruli Dibo Kune (Marigaon), Jirangat Eti Aparahna (Bihguri) and My Name is Khandu (Guwahati). The souvenir published on the occasion will also be released on the concluding day.
