GUWAHATI, Dec 3 � Renowned flautist Prabhat Sarma was honoured with the Rameshwar Pathak Memorial Award on Monday at a function held here at Rabindra Bhawan. The award carries a citation, a memento and Rs 10,000.
On the occasion of the second death anniversary of folk artiste Rameshwar Pathak, the award and tribute paying function was organized by the Rameshwar Pathak Smriti Raksha Samity.
Accepting the award, Sarma stressed the need for initiating concerted efforts to
promote folk music and called upon the young generation to love and understand the rich folk culture of the State. �I am very happy to be here today. Rameshwar Pathak was a true folk artiste and all true folk artistes do not hanker after cheap popularity,� said Sarma urging the authorities concerned to preserve and promote the contributions of Rameshwar Pathak.
Sarma also recalled his memorable moments with Rameshwar Pathak and described him as a man whose work was redolent of the smell of the soil and life of common people.
