Ram Leela at Nehru Stadium on Oct 6

GUWAHATI, Oct 2 � Asom Vijaya Dashami Mahotsava Samiti will celebrate �Ram Leela� on October 6 at the Nehru Stadium.

�The Mahotsava, which started in 1961, has been revived after a long gap in 2009 and the encouragement the Samiti received from all sections of society has encouraged us to continue it every year,� said a press statement from the Samiti.

Ram Leela will include four major episodes of the Ramayana, culminating in the killing of Ravan by Lord Rama and this will be followed by burning of effigies of Ravan, Meghnaath and Kumbhkaran amidst massive fireworks procured from Barpeta. The 60-foot Ravan is being made under the guidance of Pradip Pal from Bongaigaon, and Mridul Sutradhar and Deepak Baniya from Barpeta.

The Ram Leela programme will begin at 4.00 pm on October 6 with prayers in the traditional Gayan Bayan style of Assam and aarti by famous Assamese singer Sangeeta Kakoti. This will be followed by Garba Dandiya Raas Nritya under the guidance of Sanjay Shah of Gujrat Society. The statement further said the �Ram Leela� will be staged under the direction of retired NF Railway officer Mahendra Nath Chaturvedi and co-directed by another NF Railway official Sharadvidhu Shukla.

People will get to hear the recitation of Ramayan in Assamese and Hindi from noted Assamese and Hindi scholars like Ratna Ojha, Seema Shukla, Mahendra Nath Chaturvedi, Jaya Prakash Medhi, Kailash Kanoi and Saradvidu Shukla.
