Rally taken out to protest rape

By The Assam Tribune

KOHIMA, Sep 1 - A large number of people today took part in a rally here to protest against the alleged rape of a 61-year-old woman last month.

The protest rally was organised by the Kohima Village Council (KVC) and Kohima Village Youth Organisation(KVYO).

Despite heavy rains, the rallyists went through the town and submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister TR Zeliang at his residential office in Ministers Hill.

Though there was no call for bandh, business establishment and educational institutions remained closed and vehicles stayed off the road.

The woman was raped on August 22 when she was working in the field. She is now under treatment and the accused, who was arrested two days later, is in police custody.

The KVC and KVYO demanded installation of CCTV in all strategic locations of Kohima town and establishment of a forensic laboratory in Nagaland at the earliest. PTI
