Rally taken out against ULFA violence

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 19 - The Patriotic Peoples Front, Assam (PPFA) today took out a protest rally in the city against the violence and killing of innocent people by the ULFA (Independent), reiterating its stand that violence can never ensure permanent peace in the State.

The rallyists demonstrated their anger against the militants, asking them not to target the unarmed people of the State.

Following a call by the PPFA, conscious people arrived at the Guwahati Press Club in the morning and started the protest demonstration. They shouted slogans against ULFA(I) chief Paresh Barua and the acts of violence perpetrated by the militant outfit.

The protesters also shouted slogans like Enemies of India are enemies of Assam and Enemies of Assam are enemies of India, and then marched along the streets of the city carrying the national flag and placards.

We want to send a strong message to ULFA(I) leader Paresh Barua, who remains visible through some media outlets and continues with disruptive activities including killing of common people in Assam, said a PPFA statement.

The Front alleged that ULFA rebels were eliminating Indian citizens in Assam to make space for the illegal Bangladeshi nationals as a return gesture to the populous country, where they once took refuge. It also asserted that the killing of people in Assam must be stopped at any cost.
