Rally in Silchar today over reopening of paper mills

SILCHAR, June 11 - Demanding resumption of production and remittance of pending salaries of the employees at the closed Cachar and Nagaon paper mills, units of Government-run Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC), the Kagaj Kal Bachao Joutha Mancha, a conglomerate of various trade unions and several organisations will take out a rally here on June 12.

Suprio Bhattacharjee, adviser to the Mancha told mediapersons that the rally would start from Narsingtola and reach the office of the Deputy Commissioner to submit a memorandum echoing the demands.

There is a possibility of sending a delegation to New Delhi in order to submit a plea before the Union Government as well.

Meanwhile, Manabendra Chakraborty, chief convenor of the HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee said that the new Government at the Centre must take up the issue on a priority basis and release the pending salaries.

�We have total backing of the Mancha regarding the rally, which we feel is the need of the hour,� Chakraborty said.
