Rally held demanding sacking of Manipur University VC

IMPHAL, June 30 - Continuing their demand for resignation or removal of Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey from his position in the �academic interest� of the varsity, students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the university took out a mass rally here on Saturday.

The rally was jointly organised by Manipur University Students� Union (MUSU), Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA).

The mass rally started from the main gate of the University at Canchipur and marched till Kakwa Bazaar on the busy Imphal-Moreh sector of National Highway 102 and returned to the University campus for a meeting.

Speaking to reporters, President of MUTA Prof I Tomba reiterated the stand of the teachers� community of the university. Demanding resignation of the VC, MUTA has also demanded constitution of a High Level Enquiry Commission immediately to look into the allegations of financial and administrative irregularities of the Vice Chancellor.

MUSU had launched an indefinite shutdown of the university on May 30, demanding removal of the VC over 15 allegations of financial and administrative irregularities.

With no sign of solution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur University, it has badly hit the academic atmosphere in the lone university in the State and affiliated colleges in the State. The Post Graduate examination of the University has also been postponed indefinitely.
