AIZAWL, Sept 5 - Major civil societies and political parties today took out a rally in Mamit district, demanding the removal of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) for conducting revision of voters list in the six Bru relief camps in Tripura.
The rally organised by the Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee and all political parties demanded that DC Bhupesh Choudhary be transferred from Mamit district before September 10.
The NGO Coordination Committee, comprising major civil societies, had earlier objected to the revision of Mizorams voters list in the relief camps outside the State and demanded that the revision be undertaken after the completion of the repatriation process.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to investigate the burglary at the Mamit Election Officers Office on August 23 in which all the duly-filled claim and objection forms collected from the Bru relief camps were stolen. The SIT had arrested 11 people in connection with the burglary.
Election Commission of India Secretary SB Joshi and Under Secretary Santosh Kumar Dubey visited Mamit town on Saturday and discussed with the DC, SP and SIT members, the actions taken by the district administration and the police. PTI
