GUWAHATI, March 6 The protest rally of the Asom Mahila Parishad and Asam Gana Parishad against the price rise of essential commodities today caused immense difficulties for the commuters on the roads of Guwahati.
As it happens during any protest rally and procession in the busy areas of the city, the roads were jam-packed for several hours from the morning till afternoon as the protesters demonstrated against the price rise in front of the party office and marched towards the DCs Court to submit their memorandum.
Ambari, Uzanbazar, Guwahati Club, Silpukhuri, Chandmari, B Baruah Road, Ulubari, Kachari, Panbazar, Fancy Bazar were among the areas badly affected by the traffic jam, where the road traffic came almost to a standstill. Vehicular traffic in the other adjacent areas was also disrupted due to the traffic jam.
The rallies and protests are organised for the benefit of the common people. But, in the process, the commoners are worst affected, said a passenger who was charged extra fare by the autorickshaw driver due to traffic jam.
The rallies that can disrupt traffic for longer durations are considered more successful, which setting a bad precedent among the people, he added.
