NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Feb 6 - A torchlight rally was taken out at Gerukamukh on Wednesday evening against the construction of the 2,000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydro Electrical Power (LSHEP) plant.
Organised by the AASU, AJYCP and 30 other ethnic organisations, the rally demanded immediate halt to the construction work of the LSHEP dam over the Subansiri river at Gerukamukh by NHPC Ltd.
A protest meeting was held in front of the entrance gate of the NHPC premises at Gerukamukh where AASU vice president Chittaranjan Basumatary said that the student body demands the suspension of construction of the dam work which would cause terrible destruction in the downstream areas of the Subansiri river.
Basumatary reiterated the stand of the AASU against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. Dhemaji AASU unit president Deepak Sarma and secretary Kalyan Gogoi, Gogamukh AJYCP leader Ranjan Bora, and Gogamukh Press Club president Anirban B Gohain also addressed the rally.
