JORABAT, Dec 6 - Several organisations today took out a joint procession from the office of All Assam Tribal Sangha at Sonapur to the Sonapur Police Station, demanding the arrest of the persons involved in the burning down of the office and contruction vehicle of SP Memorial Siksha Niketan at Mohpur under the Sonapur PS on November 23.

The organisations alleged that even after two weeks of the incident, no one has been arrested. The organisations alleged that Sonapur Police had a hidden nexus with the miscreants involved in the arson.

The protesters also gheraoed the Sonapur Police Station and shouted slogans against the police.

The organisations that took part in the protest rally included All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU), Guwahati Metro Committee, and the Dimoria units of Tiwa Students Union, Karbi Students Union and All Assam Tea Tribe Students Association.

The president of AAGSU (Guwahati Metro Committee), Bishnu Prasad Pokhrel warned of an intensified agitation in the days to come if the police do not arrest the culprits involved in the incident.

The leaders of the organisations taking part in the protest rally demanded an independent inquiry into the matter.

It may be recalled that on November 23, miscreants set fire to the office of SP Memorial Siksha Niketan and a dumper engaged in construction activities. Office-bearers of the NGO alleged that the miscreants involved in the incident had claimed affiliation to some organisations of Dimoria.
