Rakesh, Ankan in lead

GUWAHATI, July 24 - The dream run of GTC lad Nitish Das was halted as he suffered two consecutive loses in the hands of Prakash Nepal of Nepal in round 4 and Y Dhanabir Singh of Manipur in round 5 of the GTC Classic Chess that is underway here.

However another Assam player Rakesh Chakravorty of Jorhat seeded 17th, continued his giant killing spree as he defeated 2nd seed Rajiv Dhar in round 4 and 6th seed Rupankar Nath of west Bengal in round 5 and thus joined Ankan Roy of West bengal on the top board in round 6. Both Rakesh and Ankan share the lead with 5 points out of 5 rounds.

Brief results of top 10 boards in round 5: Prakash Nepal drew with Trailokya Nanda, Ankan Roy defeated Nandan Buragohain, Rupankar Nath lost to Rakesh Chakravorty, S Vikramjit Singh defeated Prodip Bhuyan, Rahul Soram Singh drew with Debashish Dutta, Ayan Banerjee lost to Projit Phukan, Rajib Dhar defeated Pranab Kumar Nath, Nitish das lost to Y Dhanabir singh, Dimbeshwar Tye lost to Mahendra Bora and Deep Das lost to Avijit Das.
