Rajnath assures to safeguard territorial integrity of Manipur

IMPHAL, March 2 - Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh today promised justice for Churachandpur incident wherein nine persons were killed besides solving the political problems of �Kuki-Zomi�. He also promised to safeguard the identity and territorial integrity of Manipur, according to reports.

The BJP leader made the promises during his last leg of election rally at Churachandpur town on Thursday. The rally was also attended by BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, among others.

He also promised that Manipur will be developed as a model State in five to 10 years if BJP is elected to power. He cited the prevalence of corruption in the State as one of the main reasons for its backwardness as well as high rate of unemployment.

It just happens that the Congress has deprived the people of its rightful growth for the past 15 years, Singh alleged.

Five hurt in blast: Around five persons including a women were injured when a bomb exploded at a private residence near Shija hospitals complex at Langol in Imphal around 5 pm on Thursday. The reason behind the explosion is yet to be established.

BJP chief: Residents of Chingmeirong locality in the State capital here were treated to a surprise when BJP national president Amit Shah visited the neighbourhood in an impromptu door-to-door election campaign on Wednesday morning. Manipur goes to poll on March 4 and 8.

Shah, accompanied by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and BJP Manipur president Kh Bhabananda, distributed the vision document of the party during his visit to about half a dozen houses at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai under Wangkhei constituency where MLA Yumkham Erabot is re-election on BJP ticket.

Elders who could not interact with the BJP chief in Hindi were assisted by their children during the 30 minute campaign.

Shah, who was here on a two-day visit to campaign for the party, addressed election rallies at Ukhrul, a hill town, and Yumnam Leikai in Imphal prior to his departure for the national capital yesterday afternoon.

At the rallies, he came down heavily on the ruling Congress Government in Manipur alleging that the government did not undertake any development work during its 15-year rule.
