Rajkhowa, Chitrabon get bail

GUWAHATI, Dec 23 � ULFA �chairman� Arabinda Rajkhowa and the outfit�s �finance secretary� Chitrabon Hazarika were today granted bail by the Gauhati High Court in connection with the Special Operation Unit police station case number 1/95 registered u/s 120(B)/121(A)/122 IPC read with 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities(Prevention) Act.

This came after AK Phukan, Advocate General submitted that the State Government has no objection in the ULFA leaders being granted bail in view of the peace talks. The ULFA leaders were represented by advocate Bijon Mahajan and advocate Arshad Choudhury.

The ULFA leaders were ordered to be released on bail of Rs 50,000 each with two sureties subject to the satisfaction of the CJM, Kamrup.

The Court also ordered that the duo shall appear before the Court as and when so directed.

Besides, the Court has also asked the accused not to hamper or tamper with the evidence and also not indulge in nay criminal activity during the bail period.

Meanwhile, the final hearing on the six other TADA cases against Arabinda Rajkhowa would be pronounced tomorrow.
