Rajiv Gandhi University 2nd best Central varsity

ITANAGAR, Aug 14 - The Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) of Arunachal Pradesh has been ranked second among Central varsities in a list released by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

The RGU overcame prominent universities like the JNU, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), University of Delhi, BHU, Vishva Bharati, NEHU and Tezpur University, among the list of 49 other Central varsities.

The RGU received the �excellent� status for 2019-20 on the basis of performance parameters set by the MHRD for Central universities. It received a score of 83 per cent, which is the second after Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi. Jamia Milia Islamia secured 90 per cent, followed by the JNU at 82 per cent (third) and the AMU at 78 per cent (fourth).

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has congratulated the RGU fraternity on attaining the rare feat.

�Heartiest congratulations Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU)! Happy to know that RGU from Arunachal is ranked the second best Central University in the country in rankings released by the Ministry of Education with a score of 83%. May RGU continue to achieve more such glories!,� Khandu tweeted.

An RGU release said the ranking is based on an annual tripartite MoU signed between varsities, HRD Ministry (now Ministry of Education) and the University Grants Commission. All the universities were required to sign a tripartite MoU with the MHRD and the UGC for continuous evaluation.
