GUWAHATI, Dec 19 - Liquor baron Rajesh Jalan, accused of evading State exchequer of several crores of money, was today granted bail by the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) in connection with a case related to sale of adulterated liquor in the name of reputed brands.
The Court allowed Jalan to go on bail after the Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) failed to submit the charge-sheet within the stipulated time.
Jalan, who was represented by advocate Arshad Choudhury, was shown arrested in the case as he was already in judicial custody in connection with a case being probed by the CID.
The case relates to recovery of five truckload of IMFL along with bottle caps and labels of reputed brands and undiluted liquor flavour from a place owned by Jalan in Gorchuk in September following which a case was registered under Section 120 (B), 420, 406, 409 of the IPC read with Section 53 of the Assam Excise Act.
