Rajdip, Sushmita submit nominations in Silchar

SILCHAR, March 25 - Amidst popular support by party top shots and deafening cheers from supporters, candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress submitted their nomination papers for the Silchar parliamentary seat before the Cachar Deputy Commissioner cum Returning Officer Laya Madduri on Monday.

Son of former BJP legislator late Bimalangshu Roy, Rajdip was accompanied by former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha, State ministers Pijush Hazarika, Parimal Suklabaidya, Assam election in-charge for the party Mahendra Singh, local MLA Dilip Paul and his legislator colleagues from the constituencies of Cachar and district BJP chief Kaushik Rai.

Meanwhile, Sushmita Dev was accompanied by former minister Ajit Singh, Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Goala, Boko MLA Nandita Das, former Borkhola MLA Rumi Nath, district Congress president Pradip Dey and others

Addressing the media after filing his nomination paper, Rajdip said, �There has been a spurt in the developmental works under the BJP-led Government at the Centre and, subsequently, in the state and the party is confident to win all 10 seats in the State. The misrule of the Congress in the State will get a befitting reply and the nation will again be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.� He was quick to remind the people BJP�s commitment to get the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 passed once the new government comes to power.

On the other hand, Sushmita Dev said, �We shall not only put forth the fallacious and illusive promises including the CAB which in no way guarantees citizenship to the displaced, but also highlight the realistic commitments envisaged by the Congress like minimum income guarantee to the youths.�

Sushmita said she is confident that the people of Silchar cutting across religious lines and other barriers shall bless her for representing them in the Lok Sabha. �Blessings of my father late Santosh Mohan Dev will be the guiding light for me towards the battle of ballots,� she maintained.
