Raj Bhawan containment zone tag withdrawal criticised

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 26 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has termed the withdrawal of containment zone status from the Raj Bhawan as a violation of COVID-19 protocol.

The Raj Bhawan had been declared containment zone after about 73 persons, including officers and staff there, tested positive for COVID-19. The sudden withdrawal of the containment zone status by the Government of Assam is a gross violation of COVID protocol, said the senior Congress party leader. He also alleged that the Governor has violated the protocols.

Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi is aged about 77 years. He is the constitutional head of the State. But, instead of being an example to the fellow citizens, he visited different flood-affected areas of Assam in violation of protocol, thereby, doing a great disservice to the State, said Gogoi.

If a responsible person like the Governor does not follow the rules and regulations, how could we expect a common man to behave like a law-abiding citizen. To contain COVID-19, all necessary steps like hand washing, mask wearing, maintenance of social distancing, confinement of people in the containment and affected areas, must be strictly observed. While many BJP leaders were critical of our Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordolois presence at the funeral of Late Mufti Khairul Islam at Dhing, they are conspicuously silent about the Governors visit, said the three-time Chief Minister. He alleged that COVID-19 cases in Assam are increasing at an alarming rate because the State government has failed in strictly implementing the protocols.
