SHILLONG, April 22 - The 55th Raising Day of 101 Area headquarters was today celebrated with traditional military drills.
101 Area headquarters was raised in 1963 as a communication zone. During 1966, when Mizoram was gripped with insurgency, the formation was tasked to conduct counter insurgency operations there.
During the 1971 war, the formation took active part in combat operations in Sylhet and Mymensingh districts of the erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and was the first to reach Dacca.
On the occasion, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area, Lt Gen Depinder Singh Ahuja, laid a wreath at the war memorial to commemorate the martyrs and addressed all ranks of headquarters 101 Area.
