Rainwater inundates Dergaon town

By Correspondent

DERGAON, July 15 - Due to incessant rainfall during the last 36 hours, Dergaon town has been reeling under rainwater. Storm water has filled up all fields and drains. As a result, the excess rainwater has inundated the main roads of Dergaon town.

Water is flowing over the NH-37 at the Negheriting Chariali, while the PHCG Road has been submerged by water at Padmapur Ward No. 9 and Sahupatty Ward No. 3. Similarly, water has risen to up to two feet on the Lakshminath Phukan Path in front of the Dergaon PS and at Milanpur. The grounds behind the Dergaon HS School and the Dergaon Girls HS School have also been inundated.

The other roads of Ward No. 4 and No. 5 at Kumargaon have also been under water. Water has entered the residences too. As a result, the normal life of residents in Dergaon town was disrupted during the day. Since the ponds and small waterways have been filled up, people are seen fishing on the main roads too.

Though the rainfall has not been very heavy, the unscientific drainage system has created problems in the disposal of storm water. The indifferent role of the Dergaon Municipal Board has also been widely criticised.
