Rains likely to hit NE in 2-3 days

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 � Rainfall activities are expected to occur at many places over the NE region during the next two to three days, said H Pathak, Deputy Director General of Meteorology (DDGM) of the Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) here today. He was talking to The Assam Tribune.

Reasoning, Pathak said that a monsoon trough is running from Rajasthan to North East Bay of Bengal passing across UP, Bihar and the Gangetic Plains. A secondary trough of low pressure is also seen running from Bihar to Manipur passing across Bangladesh.

There is also a cyclonic circulation seen over North West Bay of Bengal and adjoining area, between 1.5 km and 4.6 km above the mean sea level, he said.

However, the DDGM maintained that the situation will become more clear tomorrow about the actual distribution and intensity of rainfall at different location of the NE region.

Meanwhile, Assam�s deficit in matters of monsoon rainfall has shot up to 28 per cent. Against the normal 904.3 mm of rainfall, the State has so far received 651.7 mm of rainfall.

Manipur, with 51 per cent, has recorded the maximum amount of deficit in this respect. Meghalaya has recorded a deficit rainfall of 49 per cent, while Nagaland has recorded a deficit rainfall of 40 per cent, Mizoram has recorded a deficit of 35 per cent and Tripura has recorded a deficit of 23 per cent in this respect, Pathak said.

Meteorological subdivisions wise, Assam and Meghalaya has recorded a deficit rainfall of 36 per cent, Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram and Tripura has recorded a deficit of 39 per cent and Arunachal Pradesh has recorded a deficit of ten per cent. Pathak maintained that the deficit within 19 per cent is treated by the meteorologists as normal in this respect.
