DHEMAJI, July 10 - Incessant rains for the last two days have affected normal life of people in Dhemaji district. The overflowing water has submerged low-lying areas and human habitations in Dhemaji and Jonai towns. The surging water of Lali river has submerged four villages in Kobu chapori in Jonai Revenue Circle. According to information, several villages of Bera Chapori area under Bahir-Jonai panchayat have been affected by flood.
Overflowing water of Jonai and Sille rivers washed away standing paddy crops and vegetable gardens and other plantations on both sides at Torajan and Mohmara areas, leaving behind a trail of devastation.
The overflowing Lali river has entered many villages of Rayang Bijoypur, Gali Siga and Ramdhon panchayats under Jonai Revenue Circle through a breached dyke at Mudoi Debera.
The second wave of flash flood in the district has affected about 22,628 people of 51 villages. The worst-affected Jonai Revenue circle has 42 affected villages, including the Kobu chapori and Bahir-Jonai area. More than 500 acres of cropland in the district have been inundated while many rural roads have been damaged in the flash flood so far.
