Rains hit city life

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 2 Several parts of the city and its suburbs woke up to face urban floods following rains which had started on Tuesday night.

Localities like Chandmari, Rajgarh, Silpukhuri saw overtopping of roads in the morning, and some parts of south and west Guwahati also saw streets go under water.

A resident of Kalipur, Chandra Das said that a part of the road linking Durgasarobar with the AT road was covered by rainwater for several hours. In several areas, particularly those close to the hills, roads were covered by loose red soil.

As usual the arterial RG Baruah Road saw traffic snarls due to water logging. Complaints have been coming in from residents that even after repeated appeals the authorities concerned have shown no intent to improve the drainage system along the busy road.
